“Resident Evil……Five” The game synonymous with horror. One would argue one of the original games to take horror into the third dimension and actually “scare” the player. Unfortunately this iteration takes the user a little further from the survival horror and more towards a third person shooter. This needs to be known going into the game. This game is more like a gears of war than a Dead Space, but still delivers. 

First and foremost, I must mention the visuals. Damn good sums it up. Textures are all in very high resolution, and are very consistent. The ground, billboards, character models, just are very well done and you can tell a lot of care was made with each model. For the visual players, there is a lot to look at. The movement people have complained, and compared to other shooters, but this game is just “different”. I wouldn’t say its bad at this far in the game (few hours), but I know why people are complaining. I am going to bring into comparison two other third person games. First being the famous Gears of War, this game you stop and shoot mostly and are rarely moving or blind firing, but you can to deflect enemies. The reason this works is the cover system. You stop, shoot, go to cover, wait, shoot, repeat. Now the other game I want to compare is Lost Planet, this game is a Capcom third person that allows a user to shoot and run at the same time, in fact ,it encourages this gameplay. Resident Evil 5 is almost a combination of both. For starters there is no cover, but you must stop and aim in order to fire on the enemy. This at first is fairly discouraging considering they throw hoards of enemies at you. Unlike Lost Planet, there is no option to run and shoot, but you are running a hell of a lot. At this point, I see the control scheme as “just the way it is” and actually adds to the “frantic feel” of the game. An example would be, walking down a hall being chased, you turn around, stop, aim, fire, the zombies close in, you then get out of aim, you’re completely vulnerable as you continue your trek down the hallway with your back turned. Some may see this as taking you out of the game, but I feel as though with enough playing it just becomes the game’s way of playing. Once I complete the game, I think I’ll make the final judgement. The story so far is a basic people get infected and you are sent in to take care of it. I haven’t gotten into too much story development, and its there and I am sure it will pick up as I go through the game. If you are interested in shooters, like the zombie feel, this game is for you. If you are into fast paced shooters, you might want to try the demo and be done.  Once I complete the game, I can make a few more decisions, but until now I am enjoying this game.
